Difficulty: The LT is known as a difficult trail with many climbs, steep terrain, and streams without bridges. The ascents and descents were quite difficult between the mud and the rocks - I personally would call this a difficult trail, but I realize that's all subjective. As far as the wildlife goes, I seen the biggest timber rattlesnake I ever seen. The overstory is of stately old oaks, pines, spruce, hemlock, maple, and sycamore. Water was plentiful. It reminded me of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. If you have a chain saw (and know how to use it), bring it; otherwise, loppers are good. You could totally do it without a map or guidebook but I suggest the guide book for tracking/planning your day, water refills, break, benchmarks etc. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.
